Thanksgiving is over and the fridge is full of leftovers! What do you do with all that food without getting tired of it? Getting creative in the kitchen by adding seasonings can help you use up all those leftovers without getting bored of eating the same thing over and over again. Here are some ideas to get you started!
Ranch Seasoning
Mashed potatoes just aren’t the same the day after, right? They get clumpy and lose their creaminess. Boo! They can be brought back to life with a little love (and butter). Just add a little bit of milk to them to get that creaminess back and give the flavor a boost by sprinkling in some ranch seasoning. Ranch seasoning is very versatile and can liven up some of your other leftovers as well. Are you overflowing with leftover turkey? Try taking it in a new direction by making turkey salad sandwiches that are seasoned with ranch and bacon.
Taco Seasoning
While we don’t typically think of tacos for Thanksgiving here in Northeast Ohio, a fun way to reinvent some of your leftover turkey is to try turkey tacos. Just warm up your shredded turkey meat with some taco seasoning and water to infuse a new flavor. Bring out the taco shells and add all your favorite taco toppings and enjoy!
Cajun Seasoning
Sometimes it’s fun to take those leftovers in a whole new direction so that they don’t taste anything like Thanksgiving dinner. Season things up with some spicy cajun seasoning to make jambalaya! Follow the recipe like you normally would, just substitute your leftover turkey for the chicken and put the turkey in at the end since it is already cooked.
Pumpkin Pie Spice
When it comes to making pumpkin desserts, sometimes you don’t need the whole can of pumpkin for your recipe or you have a random can of leftover pumpkin pie filling that you don’t know what to do with. One idea is to add some of the canned pumpkin to a pancake batter along with some pumpkin pie spice to elevate your morning meal. Pumpkin pie spice can also be added to a pumpkin dump cake to enhance the pumpkin flavor.
Make Your Own Seasoning Blend
Another thing you can do is make up your own seasoning blend. If you have leftover pie dough or pie shells that you need to use up, turkey pot pie is a great way to go. Mix up a blend of thyme, parsley, and garlic salt to bring life to a creamy pot pie filling. And what about those sweet potatoes that are leftover? It’s a great opportunity to use a spice like cardamom, mixed with nutmeg, salt, and brown sugar to create a seasoning blend that will wake up those leftovers.
