Liberty Commons may not be quite full of life yet, but that doesn’t mean there’s no reason to visit Merriman Valley. There are plenty of fun things to do in the area while you await the new and improved Liberty Commons. Here are just a few suggestions!

Visit a Local Brewery

Located a quick two minutes away from Liberty Commons, R. Shea Brewing is a relatively new brewery that was established in 2015. While they produce a wide range of beers, their specialty leans towards a maltier beer with plenty of flavor and character.

Akron is also home to multiple other local breweries, such as Akronym Brewing, Missing Falls Brewery, and Thirsty Dog Brewing Co. Tap House. On the Cuyahoga Falls side, you can find Ohio Brewing Company and HiHO Brewing Co.!

Learn About Local History

Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens is located less than ten minutes away from Liberty Commons. This historical 70 acre estate will be open to the public for the 2022 season April 1 – December 30. During its operating season you can explore the Manor House, gardens, the Corbin Conservatory, the Gate Lodge, and the Carriage House, all of which belonged to F.A. Seiberling, co-founder of Goodyear.

Akron is also home to other historic homes, such as:

  • The C.W. Seiberling Mansion, owned by the other co-founder of Goodyear.

  • Dr. Bob’s Home, owned by Dr. Bob Smith, a co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous.

The Cuyahoga Valley area is littered with many more historical sites, such as historical societies, churches, and historical Native American and African American landmarks. You can check them out here.

Check Out the Local Food Scene

The Akron and Cuyahoga Falls areas are home to a number of fantastic local restaurants. Saffron Patch in the Valley, The Merchant Tavern, and Papa Joe’s Iacomini’s are all within one mile of Liberty Commons.

If you head to Cuyahoga Falls, there are many food offerings along Front Street. Some local favorites include Butcher & Sprout, the Workz on the Riverfront, Cashmere Cricket, and Leo’s Italian Social.
