Cuyahoga Falls is an area filled with a rich history. The Cuyahoga River is beautiful and serene. The river was an old source of power for the mills. By 1840, Cuyahoga Falls had a wider variety of manufacturing. Native Americans used to use the river and even though the industry has now moved away from the river, there is still the industry of Cuyahoga Falls. Cuyahoga Falls has had lots of growth including residential, commercial, and industrial. In 1985, the City of Cuyahoga Falls merged with Northampton Township. This made the city almost tripled in geographic area.

In the upcoming weeks, the City of Akron and Cuyahoga Falls are meeting to discuss the plan for Merriman Valley. Mayor Dan Horrigan and Mayor Don Walter are inviting the public to attend this meeting on December 15, 2021. The aim is to make the area more walkable, equitable, and beautiful for residents of the area. The meeting is also aimed to make sure that residents, business owners, and other stakeholders’ goals are reflected throughout the process. Some highlights of the meeting are:

  • Improved Transportation Systems such as streets, trails, river access, and bike paths.

  • Environmental Considerations like conserving neighborhoods, habitats, and any other setback that may occur

  • Proposed Land Uses

  • Development Scenarios and Redevelopment Scenarios within the area of Cuyahoga Falls and Akron

The Liberty Commons area will be located in Merriman Valley and home to many offices, restaurants, bars, shopping, and more! In the future, you will be able to spend the whole day in this area and enjoy the scenery.

Any residents who are interested in attending the meeting can sign up on the city of Cuyahoga Falls Website. For more updates on Liberty Commons, stay tuned to our social media.
